Born-Again Christian Sentenced for Rape of Teenage Girl

A Salem man who used to dress as a cowboy and put on a Wild West-style sharpshooting show to raise money for his church has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison for raping a teenage girl.

Joseph Elliott, a born-again Christian who used to perform under the stage name the "Calvary Kid" while wearing a black Stetson with a cross on it, was sentenced on Wednesday to five to seven years behind bars followed by five years of probation. He was convicted this week of raping and assaulting a Lynn girl he knew in her mid-teens. He was acquitted of charges of raping the victim’s sister.
